About Maggie Mae
Hi, I’m Maggie Mae—welcome to Embodied Wellness.
Ever notice how “About” pages are almost always written in the third person? Why is that? I’d rather tell you my story the way I live my life—directly and from the heart.

Embodied Wellness feels like the culmination of my life’s path.
I was raised on five acres of land nestled against state forest in a town of just 560 people. Nature and community were the foundation of my childhood. I spent endless hours playing in the woods and have always felt a deep, sustaining connection to the natural world.

Growing up in a small town taught me neighborliness, generosity, and the value of showing up for one another. When you know everyone, you care for everyone. That ethos of connection still shapes how I move through the world today.

I've always been a seeker—curious, passionate, and a little bit of a black sheep. That spirit has carried me to over 20 countries across five continents, helped me hike Vermont’s Long Trail three times, attempt a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, try my hand at homesteading, participate in triathlons, officiate weddings, lead walking and cycling tours, and dive deep into studies of holistic health, massage therapy, conscious communication, mindfulness meditation, yoga, yoga therapy, and birth work. I’ve worn a lot of hats in my five decades!

Why women and girls?
Through all my adventures, it’s my relationships with other women that have anchored, nurtured, and guided me. Creating Embodied Wellness is my way of paying that forward. Supporting women and girls as they navigate life with more honesty, fulfillment, and meaning is a calling that feels deeply aligned with who I am.

I don’t claim to have all the answers—but I have a whole lot of questions to help guide you toward your own. I’ve lived long enough and loved hard enough to show up with both empathy and groundedness. I bring my lived experience, the practices that have supported me—like yoga, time in nature, and meditation—and my sincere care for your well-being into every session.

I believe in the power of unconditional support, humor, presence, and practices that reconnect you to the wisdom and strength already within you. I want to help you look beyond the cultural, societal, and familial conditioning that tells us we’re not enough—to help you remember what it means to feel whole, healthy, and at peace in your body and your life.

My journey as a student and teacher
When I was 13, my dad gave me Light on Yoga by B.K.S. Iyengar. I didn’t understand most of it, but the photos fascinated me. I mimicked the poses, stretching into shapes that felt both awkward and exhilarating. That book planted a seed.
Nine years later, while studying massage therapy and holistic health at the Heartwood Institute in Garberville, CA, I practiced under senior Iyengar teacher Gayna Uransky four mornings a week. What began as a curiosity became a deep passion. I started teaching yoga in 2001, subbing at Topnotch in Stowe before leading my own classes. In 2005, I completed my 200-hour teacher training at the Sivananda Ashram in the Bahamas, and in 2015, I earned an 800-hour certification in Integrative Yoga Therapy at Kripalu under Joseph LePage.

My meditation journey also began at Heartwood, but it took root in 2002 when I attended my first 10-day Vipassana silent retreat. It was life-changing—and kickstarted a near-daily meditation practice that’s stuck with me ever since (okay, I miss a day here and there—but not often!). I’ve since completed two more 10-day retreats and attended multiple retreats at Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, ranging from three days to three weeks. In 2021, I graduated from Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield’s two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, which was a profound and transformative deep dive.
